Dunnage - The protective packaging that is inserted inside a
plastic container for part shipping.
Dies or Tooling - Die boards constructed with steel rule that will cut out material
in mass production.
Tote -
Plastic container used for returnable packaging. Can be a handheld or
a bulk container. Manufactures include Schaefer, Orbis, Buckhorn,
Monoflo, Ropak, and many others.
Plastic Corrugated - Extruded, fluted, Polypropylene sheet. Ranges in thickness
from 2 millimeters to 10 millimeters.
Polyethylene Foam - Varies in color and density. Ranges from 1.2# to 9#. Open
cell is used for applications where surface scratching is not an
issue.
Cross-Linked Foam - Varies in color and density. Ranges from 2# to 6#.
Closed cell is used for applications where surface scratching is an issue.
(ie. painted, chromed parts)
Ratchet Rivets - 2 piece set that is inserted through the tote wall and secures
the dunnage to the container.
Double Sided Tape - Used to connect the dunnage to the inside of the tote.
Velcro -
Used to connect the dunnage to the inside of the tote. Allows end
user to remove the packaging. (ie. for tote cleaning)
Cable Ties
- Used in some projects to secure dunnage to the tote. Also used to
secure multiple layers of thick foam together.
Hot Melt Glue
- Heated glue that secures foam parts together, and also to secure dunnage
permanently to the tote.
